iss MobiNil Uses Access 1000 System To Protect IT Rooms And Switches
The Project:
The consortium of France Telecom, Motorola and Orascom Technologies MobiNil had much concerns regarding the securing of their assets and information technology. The headquarters for MobiNil established in the famous World Trade Center initially started consisting of three floors. Due to rapid expansion in the Egyptian market, now holding
almost 1.5 million subscribers, the company now holds over sixteen areas distributed within the WTC. The major concern of the officials were the expandability and security issues for any Access Control System to be provided.
There was no competition to CEM's Access 1000 system in the above two fields and other. The system's expansion and security features provided MobiNil officials with their demands and added features as well.
The initial order was for twelve doors, two of which had to have anti-passback features these were the Main Switch and the IT Server rooms. Now the system has expanded to cover
seventy rooms and five different sites within the country of Egypt. The remote sites covered were WTC, Agouza, Heliopolis, Nasr City, and Alexandria. The sites were linked within the existing
telco infrastructure utilizing Microwave links between the sites.
The well organized and large scale database utilized by the A1000 system stood later as a perfect tool for Human Resource application. Holding all security information of each user, the database also allowed the addition of multiple customized fields like user photo, signature, DOB, date of assignment, and many other fields that were important for Human Resources purposes. Currently over 20,000 users are enrolled in the database which holds up to 76,000 users. Each user has his/her photo and signature stored and the database size is
continuously checked for compacting in order to minimize disk space.
The versatility of the A1000 time zone features allowed the system to operate in pin-only at hours where attendance is high at low security areas and card only at late shifts and both card and pin for unusuall hours (after midnight). The reader used is the all-in-one S400 reader with built in magnetic stripe read head and keypad. The LCD had large character displays to provide transaction verification.
